Once the bride and groom make their main entrance into the reception room, it is time for their first dance as husband and wife. The first dance is possibly the most romantic moment of the evening and follows the yelling and clapping of their main entrance. The guests become silent as the song starts and they observe the lovely couple share this very special and personalized dance together.

During the first dance, the bride and groom spend 4 to 5 minutes together on the dance-floor in front of their closest friends and loved ones, and this is arguably the most romantic moment of the evening.

There are no traditional first-dance songs. This can be a song that you heard while on a road trip, or one that matches your theme, like on this Phantom of the Opera Wedding. It can also be in honor of your parent’s first dance-song. Sometimes a combination of different songs are used when either the bride and groom can’t agree on a song or the couple wants to add a surprise twist as the guests are expecting the entire song to play.

Many couples take dance lessons  in advance for their first dance, which makes for beautiful videos, and, talk about creating memories! The song lasts approximately 4 – 5 minutes, but that doesn’t mean the bride and groom have to dance the entire song. You can have your Wedding DJ to fade the music at a specific point in the song, or give them a signal as you’re dancing.  There are times when the bride and groom are shy and do not want to be on the spotlight for 5 minutes, in that case, you can also combine it with your father-daughter song or mother-dance song as it’s half-way through.

Your Wedding DJ or MC will announce that the first dance song is coming to an end by encouraging your guests clap. Following the first dance, you can have an additional slow dance to share with your guests, or simply take a seat as your venue takes dinner orders.

Many times, the bride and groom want to share their first dance with other guests in the room, and this is usually done as the song is half-way through, and the DJ or MC invite the guests to join the couple. By using a slow song after the first dance, you can have the best of both worlds, share the dance-floor with your guests this can involve guests afterwards if you wish to have the best of both worlds, sharing the dance-floor with your guests while dancing with your new husband or wife. This is also a way to “warm up” the dance-floor.

Special effects are used to make your first dance unique, and they includeSnow-fall, low-lying fog for dancing-on-a-cloud , or even bubbles. For lighting, if your Wedding DJ happens to offer uplighting, you can control the colors during the first dance. Some couples choose to have the entire room totally dark with a spotlight dance on the bride and groom.

As long as you select a song with significance to you, your first dance song will be special and memorable. The lyrics do matter as well, as they help express to your guests the love you feel for each-other. Your Wedding DJ and MC can also tell your guests why you chose this song, and what this song means to you. This personalizes the moment even more.
