Dinner usually follows the first dance, it is preceded by the toast and blessing. Some venues (although very few) take dinner orders during the beginning as guests first sit on their tables, prior to the main announcements. This is ideal for a Wedding DJ as there is no need to sit your guests again for dinner orders, which may take 10 to 20 minutes, sometimes more depending on the size of your Wedding.

Dinner music sometimes begins after the main course is served, other times, depending on the bride and groom, it is played during the beginning of the first course. Most couples use this dinner hour to play music for the older guests as they may choose to depart early or do not wish to dance after dinner. This is also a perfect time to open up the dance-floor for the couples, and give them a chance to dance with their guest. After the main announcements are our of the way, and if the venue has not taken dinner orders, the DJ would usually sit the guests down for orders. 15 minutes later it is time to finally dance. Soft love songs are usually played, as the real party begins after dinner. Buffet dinners have their advantages and disadvantages too. The advantage of a buffet is that there is no reason to sit your guests for orders, the disadvantage is that more time is consumed as your guests make a line for their dinner. Guests will also wait at their tables until it is called to visit the buffet line, time that can be spend on the dance floor.

Although you can select any variation for music selection and time, dinner is usually the soft and romantic music portion of the evening, after all, you are celebrating love! If the guests are in the mood however, your DJ will pick up the pace slowly and have your guests rock up until the main course is served. Speak with your DJ in regards to which era of music your parents and the older guests would like to listen to during dinner. It is important to give your older guests a chance to go back in time and relive some moments. A great idea we heard from a bride is to have the guests select a song, along with their RSVP, this way everyone will feel like they’re part of the Wedding!
