The main announcement portion of a Wedding is the first time your guests will be participating in your Wedding, by welcoming as you make your first appearance for the first time as a married couple! This is the most important 10 minutes of the night as it will set the mood and the MC will gain the trust of his audience by making the main announcements spectacular. There are several ways to make these announcements memorable, from loud and accompanied by pyrotechnics, to soft and formal. There is no right or wrong way to go about them, just be sure it fits the overall theme of your Wedding.

For most Weddings, a powerful and big main announcement session makes sense, as your guests have just come from ceremony and cocktail hour (slow pace), and need some excitement! Most of the Weddings we perform request that the main announcements be energetic and get the crowd involved, although we have had some which forbade encouraged clapping. Again, there is no right or wrong way to go about this, it just has to match your taste and style!

Who is announced first during the introductions?

The parents of the married couple are announced first. The parents who either could not make it, or are unable to walk to the dance-floor are announced first, followed by the parents who will make their way onto the dance-floor. This is followed by the bridesmaids and groomsmen, maid-of-honor (matron if married) and best-man, then of course you have your newly married couple! A special song can also be selected for the main entrance of the newly-weds, prior to the first dance song.

One variation for the main announcements session is to select a specific song for each pair in the bridal party. This can be selected by the couple walking down, or can be an inside-joke 🙂 . We have been at Weddings where the couple being announced would do a little performance or dance based on the song selected.

Another variation we have seen is when the married couple decides to make the announcements themselves! This is an awesome opportunity to declare your gratitude for those you elected to be part of your Wedding. In this case, the married couple is announced first, and then takes the microphone and talks about the bridal party couple for a bit before introducing them, and the reason they are a big part of their lives. This is personalization taken to the next level!

The first dance follows the main announcements. Be sure to go over the main announcements with your Wedding DJ and don’t be shy to ask for suggestions! DJs in general have been to many Weddings and can offer great insight into what may or may not work.

Party on!
